The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has established NEW explicit criteria for educational coaches that service Michigan’s Priority Schools. There are two types of educational coaches, instructional and content, who have different training requirements.

Did you successfully
complete the MAISA 9-day
training in 2009/10?


The MAISA content coaching training is no longer available. If you did not participate in this content coaching training in 2009-2010, you must successfully complete MI Excel Core Coaching and Content modules offered through Michigan Virtual University (MVU). If you would like to become an Instructional Coach, you do not need this training.

Coaching candidates need to meet the following criteria to participate in Coaching 101:

  • Five years as a classroom teacher
  • Currently hold or eligible for Michigan teacher certification
  • Interested in serving as a coach in Michigan during the 2014-15 school year
  • Provide two K-12 professional references
  • Submit an up-to-date resume
  • Submit undergraduate and graduate transcripts

Individuals meeting the criteria are invited to complete and submit an online application www.micoaching101.org. The application will be reviewed within 5-10 business days. Following review, coaching candidates will be notified of participation eligibility and if approved, a Coaching 101 registration code.

Through the MAISA training, you became eligible to
coach Reading and/or Math. Although not required, you are encouraged to complete the MI Excel Core Coaching and Content modules. Would you like more information on the
